i have a tamrac lens holder (dunno the model) and it fits in pretty well. kinda tight with the hood reversed, but usually I have it just sitting in there with the hood out ready to go when I'm actually shooting. works well on a belt when you don't want to carry a whole pack.

If you crop the third from the bottom, that is a good shot.

Once you get the 1.4x TC, the shots will be better. I was trying to shoot lacrosse and didn't have enough reach.

damn! please write a lengthy description of what the fuck you are complaining about now so i can get you off my fucking back. not everyone is a fucking pro like you and can shoot for sports illustrated, or think they can. those pictures are perfectly fine for a person that has owned a camera for 10 months. mother fuck!

and please do it promptly so i can put you on my ignore list

:werd: some of the things on the opposite side of the field were just a tad out of reach. everything from midfield to side i was on worked fine. if i stay at the same university and continue to shoot for the paper i'll get one before the season starts

man it must be hard work training for them, having an uphill field. :Ownedd:

some alright shots but you really need to get in closer or crop them so they look more like the last one, the action is taking up most of the frame :bigthumb:

They look a bit underexposed? I think they need to be tighter

please work on being more helpful :p

OK, as far as the composition of the shots goes.. I'll give my decidedly amateur opinion (I could be wrong, but.....):

1st shot: The fence and the 3rd player are a little distracting, the focal point is good (covers the thrower and a bit in front of him). Wider apertures will help by throwing the background out of focus. What detracts from the shot is the wasted space up the top - while you may need to leave some room for him to "throw" the ball to make the shot work it would be better to have the runner's full profile in frame. Also I would rotate to the right slightly to give room for the runner and thrown ball to "move" into, there's nothing happening on the left of frame.

2nd shot: I really don't know what's going on here. It almost looks like the runner's gone into a spastic stupor and the thrower's about to brain him with the ball.

3rd shot: I would have gone wider and lower. or tighter on the guy with the ball and the opponent (35?) coming in towards him. The empty stands are all wasted space, you'd do better to get more of the field in. This shot's just at the point where it's a mayhem of players and you can't really see what's going on, hence you need to either be wider to get a big picture of what's happening or tighter so there are fewer distracting elements to the picture (like the guy off to the left doing his best Donkey Kong impression while everyone else is busy moving).

4th shot: better, except the coach is a little distracting as he interferes with the profile of the player. 1 step to the left would solve that. also refer previous comment about the stands in top of frame being wasted space. better to have green field down the bottom of frame, or use landscape and zoom in on just the 3 players.

5th-7th shots: I would come out slightly and down right a bit to give the player room to run into. the 6th shot is weak, it's just a random moment. get rid of it.

the last shot I quite like, although it's not as sharp as it should be. You need to work on your post-processing skills as well. For shots in direct sunlight the shadows are quite harsh, so I lightened it a bit using curves, tweaked the colour marginally and sharpened it up:

    :dunno:

CRC: each shot has white points so I don't think they're underexposed, if you raised the exposure you'd bleach out detail in their clothing. The shadows and midtones are very dark though, which is why I'd lighten these using curves (doesn't change the end points, just the distribution of everything in between so the tonal range is better balanced). I probably could have gone further with curves, the histogram is still quite left-biassed in mine.
