I've had a Browning Buck Mark Hunter (7.25" bbl, scope rail on the top, fiber optic front sight) on order through Gander Mountain for over two months now, and they're not any closer to getting the gun than they were at the end of January. I'm getting tired of waiting, and got to fondle a Buck Mark Camper (5.5" bbl, no rail, fiber optic front sight) yesterday. The Hunter would cost me $400 + fees; the Camper $300 + fees. I could have the Camper Tuesday if I went in and bought it today; I have no idea when I'll see the Hunter.

I wanted to get a 22LR pistol to work on my handgun technique, in which case I'm thinking the 5.5" barrel might actually be better because it's closer to my real gun's barrel, which is 3.5" (M&P9c) so it would probably be a better training tool. I'd also like to take the thing squirrel hunting though, so a 7.25" barrel would be more accurate.

I'd really like to hold out and get the Hunter, even only if because it's super rare and I'd be the only one around that had one, but the $100 saving and instant gratification of the Camper is hard to beat. :hs:

What should I do OT? :dunno:

This is the Hunter, scope obviously not included. Would be a fucking blast at the range and for squirrel hunting.

Here's the Camper. The one I was looking at would have the black barrel, not the stainless. :hs: [IMG]

My dad owns a Ruger P89. I will never in a million billion fucking years own a Ruger handgun. I like being able to field-strip a gun in less than a minute, and not having to get out a hammer to do it :ugh:

Do you guys think the technique I pick up on use of the 7.25" barrel would translate just as well as the 5.5" barrel, given that I use a 3.5" barrel for my real gun?

Yeah, mine is a pain in the ass to dissemble/assemble...it's my only complaint of the gun.

After the first couple times, it's no problem. I can field strip my MKIII less than a minute, no hammer required. Ruger makes the best .22 semi-auto pistol you are going to find.

Don't you need a hex wrench to strip the buck mark?

I don't blame you, given that its made by umarex just like the p22 I don't think I'd buy it.

If that had the fiberoptic front sight, it'd be FTW. But good luck finding it. Browning makes 24 different models of the Buck Mark and all but 5 or 6 are in extremely limited production.

Also, if I don't buy a Browning, I'm getting an S&W. No Ruger, no Walther (yes I know it's pretty much an S&W but it still sucks), etc. I was considering getting a Sig Mosquito, but $550 for a 22LR seems a little goofy. :hsugh:

It looks like you are already interested in the ones I was going to recommend. I was going to say Buckmark first, then S&W or the Sig/Hammerli Trailside.

I would also stick with the hunter over the camper.

The P22 is nice if you have 4 year old hands. Ive shot it several times and could not get to like it at all. Plus it kept jamming.

I think that price is for the Sig Trailside which is probably what he meant to say.

To field strip a 22/45 all you need a paper clip and 30-40 seconds

this is what I have... it's a great gun.

Honestly all of the buck marks are great, regardless of which specific one you get. They'll all serve you well. Buy whichever one you like and you'll be happy.

The extra barrel length offers a better sight radius, but that's about it. If you're going to be putting some optics on it, don't even think twice about the difference in barrel length.

Nice thing about the buck marks is that 5 minutes to flip one spring around drops the trigger to an almost perfect 2-2.5 lbs trigger pull, with $0 cost. Can't beat the performance out of the box here.

I went to pull the trigger on the Camper, and it was gone  They sold the last one

If I see it at the store again, I'm not sure if I can do it or not :hs: Part of me really really wants to hold out for the Hunter :hs:
