is there any models/years i should look out for when detailing?

i.e. how can i tell whether a car has been clearcoated?

and i'm assuming it's much easier to damage a non-clearcoated car?

    1. Look out for as in PITA to detail? Anything that carries kids around. Jeeps and Subarus have thin paint. White Accords (up to 2002) and all black Lexus do not have clear coats.

    2. Rub some cleaner wax or polish on the paint. If you see the color of the paint on the pad, no clear coat.

    3. Yes and no. With clearcoats, you don't have to worry about oxidation, but the clearcoat itself is pretty thin so scratches that go through the clear will always be noticable to some extend. Single stage paint is more forgiving in that aspect.

I'd start with DACP and a polishing pad. If that isn't enough, you may need to use Fine Cut or even Medium Cut with a cutting pad, then move back down in aggressiveness.

This is a reasonably well maintained Lexus LX470 that I used the Wolfgang twins on:
