In Disconsolates first picture the sky seems grainy. Is this just a problem with the cameras set up or is it a common issue with this camera. I ask as I was looking to buy a camera for sky/night/other shots, as the camera I have now is AWFUL for zoomed shots and sky shots for the same reason (but hundreds of times worse :p).

Basically I'm looking to spend around the £700-£800 area and want the best possible for the money (as it's a lot!). I want to eliminate the grain as much as possible for £700-£800 :) I was pondering over this camera mentioned but if that grain effect is apparent in all shots then I won't bother.

    Thanks for any input :)

If you are looking for long exposure and less noise, the 300d from Canon is a much better suited camera.

The D70 (what Disconsolate owns) has a better body and is more robust feature wise. That being said, the noise does look rather high in the first pic, and might be due to jpeg compression. more so than the camera

    Not according to Phil Askey.

With both camera's at 200 ISO

... and with long exposures, the 300d, has the D70 beat.

I'd like to know where you got your comparisons for ISO's higher than 200, but lower than 1600.

I think you have the camera names mixed up past ISO 100. :)

    Darling,

    You wrote.

I proved that this is also true at 200, which the D70 DOES have

1.10 != 1.75 The rebel HAS lower noise at ISO 200. The guy who posed the question, mentioned noise, and I gave him an alternative with lower noise at base ISO's, and told him to look at the reviews for himself.

On a side note, Christ dude, get over your insecurity, buyers remorse, or those Pringles you have on your shoulders or whatever. Geez for a sackrider, you're awfully touchy.

Hmmm I wonder who's word I'll take, Phil Askey, professional reviewer, site that attracts millions of people.

or someone who clearly has an axe to grind, and feels slighted by Rebel owners.

    :slap:

Phil says under his 'controlled tests' that the D70 has MORE NOISE at ISO 200, that's good enough for me.

Here's a graph from the page you pointed out.

Draw your own conclusions, perhaps you are the one who is blind.

I have no doubt that the 'type' of noise is different, and affects the channels (R,G,B) differently, I prefer the high noise 'look' of the D70, but dude, the rebel is better image quality wise at low ISO. The D70 is a better body, and more features.

Maybe you enjoy looking at the world through rose-coloured glasses, and thinking everything is 100% perfect, but the world is many shades of grey.
