I have an N80, and I am getting a D70 (in the mail).

I was disappointed to find out that the Quantaray flash I had for my Nikon N80 (which also works for my FE2) does not work for the D70.

So now I gotta budget for another flash.

I don't want to spend $300+ on another flash, so I am looking for something used in the $100-200 range.

    My question is...

Will any of the Nikon Branded flashed with the title "DX" work for the D70?

    Like the SB28DX, SB50DX, SB80DX, etc...

Anyone have any suggestions for a non-Nikon Branded flash?

    Anyone?

I was reading the Nikon Website and I think they listed all the "DX" flashes as ok, but for some reason the SB50DX was not listed on the ok list.

I "think" the only flashes out right now that will take use of the D70`s i-ttl metering is the SB-800 and SB-600.

Your flash WILL work it you will just have to set it to manual and work it from there.

This is what it says on the Nikonusa.com website...

So I guess the 80DX and 28DX are ok - just without the fancy i-TTL.

I'm trying to avoid spending another $350 on a flash after spending $999 on a D70 body. If I can pick up a compatible flash for $150-ish, I would be happy.

    Did you check the Sigma?

Yeah, I looked at the Sigma.

I guess its too early to tell if non-Nikon Branded flashes will work with the D70. I didn't see anything that clearly said.... it will work. It sounds like the D70 is going to be picky with its products. ((for example - the sb28dx works, but the sb50dx does not)

I have narrowed my search for a used SB28DX. IT has the disfuser, and the mini-fill-flash on the front. My current flash has that, and it comes in handy when bouncing up.
