I am thinking about buying a friends D70 for 800 bucks. It comes with:

    D70 Body
    nikon 18-70mm DX lens
    Sandisk Ultra2 1gig CF
    Lowepro Micro Trekker200 camera bag

Less then 3,000 pictures take on it. Is this a good deal? Can I get something better for the same amount? :noes: :dunno:

Rip Off. Last Ebay auction went for $650 with kit lens. 1 gig CF is worth about $20.

Okay, well he just told me he isn't going to sell it anymore anyways. I kinda wanted it before this weekend. Is the d50 really that much worse?

The D50 is a very capable camera, just lacks a few things that most people won't miss if it's their first DSLR. Just don't dump a lot of money into SD cards if you intend on upgrading later.

The D50 takes near-identical pictures as the D70 (same sensor, software), so it's no "worse" in the end product. The differences are in handling. That second command wheel makes the world of difference for me. Go to DPReview or some site to find all the feature differences, but, IMO, the D50 is a great bargain if you can put up with the 1-command-wheel thing.

Does the D50 feel like the D70? I hate the way the 300d/rebel felt. I think best buy has the d50 with two lenses for 900.

the D50 feels much nicer than the rebel.
you can buy it cheaper if you look online, plus you probably won't pay sales tax which would save you about $60 more
amazon link for about $840 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...f=pd_bbs_2/103-6571823-2762253?_encoding=UTF8

You are on crack if you pay 840 for a D50, you can get a D70s for just a bit more...

However, I highly suggest the 20D, FTW!

I got my D70S for $862 with the lens from Beachcamera but I think their prices went up. I then went on E-bay and got a 2Gig for $75(with shipping). If youre gonna get a D50 check CametaCamera on E-bay. They have some good deals on the D50, thats where my ex got hers since its like 2 miles from my house.

Keep in mind if you get the D50 that is uses SD cards and if you decide to upgrade thats just going to be another expense b/c all of the other DSLRs use compact flash memory

I got my D50 + kit lense for $580 from Profeel. Their body only price was $520. You should be able to get refurb D50 body only for $400.

This is true, but compared to the 300d, the D50 feels like a professional camera ;)

Given enough light, the kit lens is actually pretty good. Relatively sharp, cheap, and small. It's when you start taking light away that it gets a bit softer, with a little chromatic aberration.
