To buy or not to buy..

Currently I shoot with a D80 and also have a D40. My main focus is wildlife so the 7 FPS would be amazing for it. I love the D80 but hate the noise that shows up, even at ISO 400. The D40 is nice but it only has three focal points and not enough features that I like. The only thing that I see about the D300S that I don't care for is the video, why does it seem like the good cameras are coming out with video? If I wanted vid I'd buy a camcorder. I see the 300 as being a major upgrade due to the FPS, active focusing, noise handling, duel cards, and other features as an huge upgrade from the D80. If I get this I plan on selling the D40 as I never use it anymore, not sure what I can get for it but it's in great shape and has about 13k clicks on it.

Anyone here use the 300s or have any input on this?

I was thinking that but the 300s has some upgrades from the regular 300.

Understandable but I wouldn't buy a used camera. A new 300 is only 100 dollars less than the 300s on Amazon.

The camera doesn't force you to use the video...

    fuck that.

why should I pay for features I don't want or need?

I'd MUCH rather they put more of those R&D dollars into giving me a better STILL camera, rather than spending another fucking second figuring out how to turn my camera into a do-it-all hybrid.

My toaster doesn't cook my eggs for me, my blender doesn't make my coffee, and my vacuum cleaner doesn't mop the floor. AND I LIKE IT THAT WAY.

However, if you really want to buy new, and the difference is only $100-150, fuck it. I'd take the d300s too...

(but in all reality, i'd save up the extra couple hundred and buy the d700...)

That's not necessarily bad. More sales = more moniez = able to lower prices and more money for R&D.
Attracting a new kind of professional to buy those camera is a good strategy because those are the one who buy lots and lots of stuff.

    HOLY SHIT. :eek3:

I'm not saying it is a bad thing, and I completely understand they're operating based on sales numbers and profitability.

But it would be nice to see them offer a version of these cameras designed for photographers. Not photographers/videographers/moms who want to take video of their babies...

How bout this - 1 model that shoots video, like the d300s. a 2nd model that doesn't shoot video, and has the same basic internals, but instead of video it comes with built in GPS, built in pocketwizard or other radio transmitter, 2 card slots, and a wireless remote.

Price them the same, see which one sells. I know which side of the fents i'd be on.

    There are? Like what?

Can you name a single feature on my camera that COULD NOT BE USED by a PHOTOGRAPHER?

Video cannot be used by a photographer, because video is not photography. The difference is huge.

but apparently it matters and is becoming relevant, look at the cameras that are coming out w/ them. I think its just another feature thats going to be the 'next step' in photography. Some will conquer it, some won't care too much about it. Regardless of what it is, its here, its selling, and its working. BEBB Studios had a whole write up on it a while back on how effective it could be.

I'm not saying its for me, but its something thats not going to be avoided in the next few years. Adapting is important, wether you like it or not. :)
