I've never heard of bait and switching in other markets. Why such a big thing in the photography world?

well in camera markets we have www.bhphoto.com except that it isn't very cheap

Im surprised at how many people are willing to risk going to an obscure site and basically give their credit card info just to save some money, its like all common sense vanishes the moment they see a great deal.

Well, look from outside the box. Anyone who is not accustomed to dealing with Photog gear online liekly does not know this.

Like anyone else I have bought a majority of my electronics and other things from online retailers for yeaaaars, and have never been ripped off.

It appears that it is quite the scam ~ maybe we should include something here in the forum for those people that are new to buying online :dunno:

Those sites rate just fine in a lot of places ~ fake ratings I now see, but it's really misleading.

Yeah, it's a crazy deal, almost unbelievable, but not unheard of. I picked up my D50 brand new with kit lens and all that shit for under $400.

This sucks :wtc: Thanks for the warnings though.

Just use a little common sense. The D300 is a BRAND NEW camera. Every other legitimate retailer is selling them at $1800 and they are flying off the shelves. Stores can't keep them in stock for more than a few minutes. WHY would a store take $750 off the price, a 42% discount, when the camera has only been out a week?

If it sounds too good to be true, it is.
