Well I want to get a d200 body as an upgrade from my d50.

What is the lowest price you guys have seen them going for? Links?

And what are your thoughts on d200 vs. d300 seeing as how I dont want to spend a whole lot of money.

First of all, why do you want to upgrade?
Need to make larger prints? Want the weather sealed body? Higher framerate? If none of that is anything you need, then there's not much sense in upgrading to the D200. If you're wanting better high-iso noise performance, you aren't going to find it in the D200.

If you can live without the weather sealing and having 3fps instead of 5, look at the D80.

If I was looking to upgrade, I would look at the D80 or D300 and skip the D200. I have a D200 and it's a great camera, but for most it isn't enough of an upgrade over the D80 to justify the price increase. The D300 is easily the better camera if not for its AF system alone. The better high iso performance is just icing on the cake.

I really need the FPS and bigger MP.
I shoot racing and sell prints.
The weather sealed body is a plus as well since 70% of the use is out in the dust and heat and sometimes rain and cold and wind in the desert.

If they offered a faster framerate on the D80 I'd be all over it, but going from 2.5 to 3 is not enough.

Lowest I've seen for the 200 at nikoncafe is around 900

Meanwhile the D80 goes for 600-700.

Save some extra money and get a D300 instead.

Agreed. 8FPS with the grip and much better AF tracking than the D200.

if you can save, definitely get the d300. if you can't, a used d200 will be much better if you're looking for FPS.
