you can get a 10speed at target for that price or cheaper. It won't be anything special of course but it'll be easier on your knees which is apparently an issue for you. What would you rather do, drop some money or have shitty knees?

your joints are worth the extra dough.

also since it supposedly gets chilly in florida in the winter, get yourself some knee sleeves to keep your knees warm while you cycle.

I think your knees are hurting from something else. Biking isn't the problem but it's revealing some other problem.

Exactly...I know people who ride fixed gear bikes 20+ miles a day. Might take a look at your seat position, etc. before your next ride.

the fact that it isnt a 10spd isnt why my knees hurt.. and it goes a lot faster than any shitty target bike.

Generally speaking... if the front of your knees are sore, your seat needs to be higher. If the back of your knees are sore, seat needs to be lower.

Find a shop with a good bike-fit guy. Cycling is one of the easiest-on-the-knees exercises there is. Something is wrong if your knees are sore.

what the ratio on the gears(how big is the front ring and how big is the back ring). If it is a high gear, see if you can swap out sprockets so you can have a easier ratio.

You should have a slight bend when your leg is fully extended, but seat height generally affects hips more than knees.

I commute ~20 miles 5 days a week (and a whole lot more per day on the weekends) from March to November and don't experience any knee pain.
