My harddrive is located within inches of the primary port on my motherboard. I want to cut off the long section of the cable and just use the shorter end. Since each cable has the ability to connect two drives to it I want to cut off the extra connector and use the cable for just one drive.

Will this cause any kinds of problems? Anyone tried it?

I've used single ended cables before - but never butchered one to get the same result.

Why not just use the first plug on the cable and tie the rest up in a neat little package so it doesn't get in the way?

Done it many a time at work. No problems, jsut make sure to do a clean cut and there are not left over wires sticking off the end.

I haven't tried to do this, but it shouldn't be a problem. I might suggest putting the drive on the connector you plan to use and make sure it works ok before cutting the cable...
