Any 10/22 tinkerer's here? Have a stocky carbine now but getting the urge to own a modded gun.

Thinking about the following build. Don't have unlimited funds, so exotic pieces (VQ CF barrels) are not realistic.

    Bench shooter/Plinker/Hunter
Green Mountain 20" Fluted Match Barrel (Blue)
    Boyd's Blaster in Pepper Laminate
    [IMG]
    Kidd Match 2-stage trigger group
    [IMG]
    Bolt buffer, receiver screw
    Bushell Scopechief 6x20-40

Any opinions? Anyone got a custom 10/22 to show off with specs?

I've only done internal work on mine so far, but the eventual plan is a Hogue OD Green or Coyote Tan stock, a TacSol fluted threaded end barrel and a Mueller APV.
    Something like this:

Until I move out of CA so I can make it like this:

i've read on rimfire central that fluting on a 10/22 is more for aesthetics than anything else. :dunno:

Yes, you're right sort of. Fluting increases resistant to bending and is stiffer than a round barrel of same weight, but is not as strong as a solid barrel of same diameter.

It's a good way to decrease weight, increase cooling, and increase barrel stiffness vs a stock barrel. Are they better than solid match barrel's? Probably not.

A good compromise is a match weight fluted barrel, lighter than a solid match, stiffer than a sporter.

considering its a .22lr, unless i was match shooting i still think of it as aesthetic. :hs:

You might want to double check your claim to barrel stiffness, since the physics classes I took awhile ago are calling bullshit :dunno:

    Personally, I'm going:
    GM .920 20" barrel
    Barracuda stock
    Jard 1lb trigger
Leupold VX-I scope and rings off my savage that I sold
    Power custom scope base
    Bolt buffer.

the only parts that will be stock are the bolt, recoil spring, charging handle, and receiver

I mentioned in my post that the key is fluted barrel vs a solid barrel of same weight (and thus less diameter). Not fluted barrel vs solid barrel of same diameter. What did you learn in physics?

Here's a few articles that back this up with math and physics.

I really thought about getting a Hogue stock... but I can't justify $100 to get a replacement stock :hs:

Tomorrow I'm sanding my wood stock and painting it OD green

Ebay'ed it? From the site they were $90 plus shipping. I mean, for 60 I'd consider it.

Any pics? Sounds hot. What are the advantages to the running boar? Seems like it would be muzzle heavy with the OEM stock.

Yeah I've got to mod the stock to work with one. Not sure what I wanna do, lots of options. I jsut don't want to fuck up a new stock by drilling into it crooked or something stupid
