How common or acceptable is it for you and your SO to curse with or AT each other during conversation? I'm NOT talking about during a heated argument/fight... just NORMAL CONVERSATION.

Examples (I'll use the F word for consistancy):

Curse with each other in conversation-
    "Hey Hon, what's going on?"
"This computer is freezing up again"
"Did you try to uninstall that program that's been causing it to freeze?"
"Yeah and it didn't work. This fucking computer is frustrating me."

Curse AT each other in conversation-
    "Hey Hon, what's going on?"
"This computer is freezing up again"
"Did you try to uninstall that program that's been causing it to freeze?"
"I don't give a fuck what you have to say to me right now. This computer is frustrating me."

I'm going to attempt to put up a poll about this topic...

Then I'll explain the specific reason why I'm asking this.

EDIT: Poll is up. Now I know why Falconer complains about the char. length!

The only time I have an issue with an SO or anyone cursing is when they use "fuck" for every other word. Even replace ummmmm.... with fuckinnnnnn....

I used to when I was younger, as I have grown up I have realized it's kinda trashy to swear all the time like that.

my husband and i curse with each other in conversation but not at each other

sometimes the conversations are casually using the curse word, and other times its a conversation where the person cursing is frustrated, but not frustrated at the other person, instead, at a situation

I curse pretty much constantly, but never directed AT someone unless it is very clearly a joke and even that I don't do often.

The whole concept of swear words being this big tabu thing is fucking retarded and outdated anyway.

Which makes my point that I often curse with my SO in normal conversation (hard habit to break being in the military) but I do NOT curse at my SO because I feel like it's rude, disrespectful and most of all hateful/the opposite of love.

I think when you love someone you enjoy building them up, making them feel good. Cursing at them is the opposite of that. The intent is to tear the other person down, which is unacceptable, especially when it comes to normal conversation. If this kind of talk becomes commonplace then you basically have a verbally abusive relationship.

plus it's... "you're in the god damn fucking military... etc."

you're = contraction for the two words "you" and "are"
your = possessive word meaning belonging to you

My ex told me "FUCK YOU!" a few times when we fought. Really kinda blew my mind. I think I threw it back at her once just to see how it felt, but I didn't like it.

Don't patronize me you mother fucking grammar Hooah..in the military, we fuck grammar with a god damn can a chaw and some bacon greased liquor, mother fucker

To be serious, it is beyond acceptable in your situation. I didn't read the thread, i just know that you are Army. I am Navy and curse in almost EVERY sentence that comes out of my mouth, out of habit. Do I mean it in a derogatory way? No. When I DO want to mean it in a derogatory way, she knows it.

You swear at work, you swear at home. You hear it at work, you're going to hear it at home.

Ok so I'll explain why I bring this up...

Last night my bf and I were on Skype. He was complaining that he thought he had a pirated version or something (his friend put it on there for him, he's NOT very savvy with computers and this is his first computer ever) because it keeps spamming him with offers to downlowd antivirus software. It also freezes his computer almost every time he runs it and he ends up having to restart his computer.

I told him he should go into add/remove programs and uninstall skype. While he was in there I said if he saw anything that looked unfamiliar or suspicious to tell me and I'd let him know if it was probably spyware and to uninstall it too.

So instead of doing that, he just started uninstalling anything that HE didn't recognise and/or thought was useless without consulting me (stupid move). One of these happened to be "realtek audio driver" :)wtf:). After he rebooted the computer he called me to tell me his sound didn't work now, lol.

    conversation went like this:

me "hey hon, what's up, did you download skype again?"
him "no, I think I messed something up when I uninstalled realtek audio driver"
me "why would you uninstall your audio driver?"
him "I always use windows media player, so I thought I didn't need that"
me "windows media player is a program you use to play audio files, audio drivers are..."
him (cutting me off) "I don't give a FUCK what you have to say to me right now. I obviously know they're different now. I'm frustrated at this computer stuff."

I stopped the conversation and told him that I was hurt by his words and that I felt that kind of language toward me was unacceptable. I told him goodnight and hung up. I woke up with 9 missed calls and 5 text messages from him trying to explain that he was upset and it just "slipped out like that". He said he was defensive because he already felt dumb for deleting something so important, and he thought I was talking down to him when I was trying to explain the difference between WMP and audio drivers. I think regardless of the situation he shouldn't have been disrespectful toward me like that. I was genuinely trying to help him.

This isn't the first time he's done this. When he gets upset it's like he lashes out at me because I'm the closest person to him and I guess he takes my feelings for him for granted. Like he can just say whatever he wants to me because I love him/care about him.

Just wanted to weigh in and see how common this issue is among others.

not to be a dick but..Seriously?
THoC, if you knew ANYTHING about the military..and if Radfad knew anything about military relationships, this thread would have never been born. The average military person, male or female, when first joining a military branch swear like it's nineteen ninety fucking nine.

I have only been in for 5 years, but I know alot better than to ask if it's normal for a military couple to swear at or with or to or from or whatever the fuck each other. It's mother fucking protocol, soldier.

I'm with you, radfad. Sounds to me like you handled the situation perfectly. I can understand that it just slipped out, but that doesn't make it okay. As an isolated incident it's forgiveable, but if it becomes a pattern of behavior, I'd have a serious problem with it.
