THE INSIDE WORD - CUNG LE OPPONENT PAID TO NOT TAKE FIGHT TO GROUND

Sources of mine that is close to the 'Strikeforce' promotion are telling me that Mike Altman, who faced Cung Le on the Strikeforce card, was given a bonus of approximately the same amount he made to show, in order to not take the fight to the ground against Cung Le. Basically, Altman could only standup fight with Le.

It was supposedly viewed as very important for Cung Le to get a knockout victory in his debut MMA fight in front of the huge hometown crowd.

not sure how credible this is, but it is a bit curious...

Wouldn't be surprised. That guy seems like more and more of a tool every day that someone brings something up about him.

I would be very skeptical too if it was any other person, but Cung Le is known for basically doing anything to keep a great record.

i agree. their "sources" are always pretty sketchy, but...
as Placebo mentioned, Cung Le usually picks his own opponents in San Shou matches just to keep his unblemished record

If Cung Le could not beat that can by himself, then he will have much larger problems if he plans on going into a larger orginization.

From what I've seen, I kind of like the guy, I'm not sure why everyone on here hates him so much.

    Backstory?

dominated san shou circuit with an undefeated record, but only because he chooses the fighters to fight to keep his record unblemished. he did an exhibition fight in a k1 tourney where he fought somebody that has never fought san shou before

I wonder why he's been allowed to do it. I saw the K1 fight, it was cool watching him, but his opponent clearly didn't know what he was doing. I'd still be interested in watching him fight in a UFC/Pride type arena though.

No you wouldn't, his fight wouldn't last very long. Any mid-level UFC or Pride guy would own him

untiul that happnes, ill give him the benifit of the doubt...innocent until proven guilty ..... but yea i think he would get worked in a real mma pride/ufc fight that fer sure......how much does cung weigh ? id like to see him get owned by a real mma fighter, and i watched the vid , the guy TOTALLY didnt go for take downs at all ..... especially since you would think with his inexperience that woulda been his whole gameplan..... very suspicious.....

lol, Cung is a good wrestler, I don't think he would necessarily get tooled on the ground. But I do know that he pics really bad opponents for his san shou fights, which is retarded and if he did that for his mma fight I wouldn't be surprised.
