redirect IE users to an education page which explains that their web-browser sucks, and that there are better alternatives such as Opera and Firefox.

    If you'd like.

I'll bet you a gift that you did not do it within my constraints... But post your source, and we'll see.

If you are not willing to post your source meeting the constraints set-forth in my first post, then you clearly did not succeed.

I even put a gift on the deal, and still you refuse.

So now, besides a troll, you are possibly a lier and cheat?

If only you'd empowered vB's Ignore feature right after you realised I never helped anyone.

that's okay, this thread is proof you're a tool and a lier. It's one thing to be a troll, but to actually lie and fraudulently represent yourself... that's low.

well I post a legit thread... you troll it... I tell you to stop trolling... you lie saying you know the answer (you don't). Then when called on this lie, you show a screencap representing a green body, or content div that is not the exact height between the top and bottom divs and fraudulently represent it as the solution. When called on this fraud, you are unable to demonstrate any evidence that you indeed have the solution.

Therefore, you are a tool, troll, lier, and fraud.

Prove me wrong, or get the fuck out.

    Now hold on one second.
    I posted a legit reply.
    You told me "
you never help anyone. Just stay out of my threads".
    I do have the/an answer. I didn't lie.
The screencap is what I had to show what I'd done. There's no arguing that I lied before I posted a screencap.
How do you "know" it's fraud? Whatever's wrong in my screecap could be bugs in my code or bugs in IE or wine, but I see no big problem.

http://piratepenguin.is-a-geek.com/~declan/crap/ogre's-gettin-sophisticated.png <-- In the three web-browsers you want this to work in, plus Konqueror. It took quite a bit of fucking about with to make work in the other browsers as well as IE (you'd note if you properly read the thread I never claimed to have it to your constraints, but I have it now.)

I'm looking at encrypting the source with a key I can release after a bit (I'm expecting someone else to post a solution...) to eventually prove you and your jumped-to conclusions fraudulent.

    edit: fuck that fancy shit.
    Code:
    [[email protected] ~]$ md5sum fuck-jolly.html
    d54fc0c0709a9ec643d7ac601e16fdc9 fuck-jolly.html
    there's my insurance I think.

And don't go around jolly as though I do this for everyone :)

okay, to prove yourself, put an iframe in the middle div that is the full height and width of the div. take a screen cap of that with windows of different sizes, along with a md5 sum... You do not have the solution.

That proves that I could POSSIBLY not have a proper solution. You can't be sure that I don't have a proper solution.
Wouldn't you like to think that.

I'm telling you that I have a proper solution, quite an excellent one, there possibly could be better though. It is hackish, since IE is involved that's to be expected. I was going to refer to "conditional comments" when I said "co-...... nevermind" earlier. I didn't end up using conditional comments, but the _ prefix which makes CSS properties apply only in IE. I hope that works in IE7, or I might actually need to use conditional comments, making the solution a lot less fancy.

I'm finished, but. You're kidding yourself if you think you know that I have no proper solution. What, have you stopped to think, if I do have a proper solution?

I can show it to you, but I don't really want to, because I'm not very fond of your attitude in this thread or any. I posted the md5sum so that if someone else posts the same solution as mine, or in a month if I feel like it, I can show that I did have it all along, and that you're full of shit. I hope it's what every observer expects nothing less of anyhow.

    Here's a sha1sum too:
    Code:
    [[email protected] ~]$ sha1sum fuck-jolly.html
    b1907cbc1e8ac928fc8397d258da1dcb7072b775 fuck-jolly.html

I was prepared to purchase a gift card to either thinkgeek or amazon for the person who had an elegant solution.

You need not worry about that tho... Since you are a fraud without the solution.

What a fantastic pissing contest this turned out to be.

piratepenguin, why are you antagonizing him? No matter how smart you are at web programming, no matter how opinionated you are about Microsoft products, and no matter how much of an asshole Jolly has been in the past, there was no reason to shit up his thread with the "legitimate response" you posted. You may be too young to be willing to accept it at this point, but your idealism alone isn't going to depose "M$" -- and until such time as people like you develop the marketing skills to convince Joe User that your open-source products are superior, people like Jolly who have to earn a living (instead of living off grants at university) are going to have to work with proprietary software, not against it.

How is causing trouble for Jolly supposed to encourage him to be less of a pain himself in the future? You should have seen this coming when you responded the way you did; worse, you probably did it on purpose.

Yes there was. You're not a web-designer if you don't understand that IE is a pain in the fucking arse.

The layout jolly was referring to is not a very simple one to implement in IE. Whenever I stick an iframe in my solution, this is what you get: http://piratepenguin.is-a-geek.com/~declan/crap/iframe-1.png Whenever you resize that one little touch, it turns out as originally expected. The iframe is resized and the bottom div actually comes up! (sorta) http://piratepenguin.is-a-geek.com/~declan/crap/iframe-resized-a-touch.png

I was always told that IE'd box model was a pile of dung, now I know.

This will not work in IE (I did think it would though, but sometimes, IE forgets about padding). All you can do is deliver them a shit page or REDIRECT THEM TO A PROPER WEB-BROWSER! Or get back to the drawing board, bitch.
I don't believe I've ever referred to them as "M$" on this board.
This has nothing to do with proprietary software, but standards-incompliant web-browsers. It has nothing to do with Microsoft either. IE makes layouts like jolly's a pain in the fucking arse. That's what it has to do with. Sorry to disappoint.

And of course I understand that some people like to have pages work on IE. I write pages for IE. It's just sometimes writing for IE can destroy the elegance in a page (edit: humm, apparently I did fuck that page up for Opera and Minefield, oh well), failing making it impossible.

I haven't actually written a non-IE page for the web in quite some time. Writing a lot of HTML 4.01 with ridiculously simple styling these days.
