Oh my, this is embarassing to post!

The other night, while sleeping with my boyfriend, out of nowhere, I burst into tears. Not gentle, one or few tears either. I mean I was bawling my eyes out. I haven't the slightest clue where it came from. I wasn't in pain, and it's not like I was crying from the pleasure. But the weird thing is that it's happened before. Not with him, but probably a year or so ago I did the same thing, though that time I wasn't quite bawling. Neither times was the crying knowingly provoked by anything.

Has this ever happened to you/has your partner ever done this? It seems quite bizarre, I've never heard of this happening to anyone. Thoughts, suggestions, support? Much thanks! xx

    I don't know, maybe because you're a female.

yeah, been there. not in a long time, but I used to have serious emotional issues that I couldn't express to anyone. When I finally found my SO, I actually felt comfortable with someone for the first time, and was able to open myself up. I would start bawling out of freaking nowhere just because.

Were you able to get through it though? I'm not too keen on potentially busting into tears at random...

its happened to me a few times. i think its just all the emotions of the situation. i never took it as a bad thing really. and it doesnt tend to happen that often, its probably been over a year since the last time i did that.

It's happened to me too, but only with long-term SO's. The first time it happened, it was when I still really young, it was first real serious bf (eventually Ex-Fiance) and it was the first time I had ever felt safe with someone.

The second time was with my (Ex) Husband. It happened a few times while we were together, again, for similar reasons as above for the first time it happened, then at different intervals during emotional times for me/us.

You can get through it, sometimes you just need to allow yourself to be emotional. I've been through a lot in the last 6 months and I'm expecting to go through a lot more in the coming year and a half. Luckily, my new SO is very comforting and accomodating to the random tears. If he wasn't, he'd be gone by now.

What I think you need to do is some self-reflection. Figure out what it was about THAT moment that would make you feel so emotional. What is going on in your life that could possibly bring you to tears. It's a simple matter of just trying to figure those things out and working through them.

Hormonal. Are you using hormonal birth control or other hormones? This has happened to me, and my conclusion was medication.

Thanks for the replies, most have been very helpful.

Edit: Yeah, I'm on the pill. With the exception of crying once previously, I don't think it's ever effected me in this way before.

While this might appear an obvious question it still has to be asked...are you nearing your period?

Even if not, I've burst into tears out of nowhere before (which is really rare for me). The joys of being a woman. Our hormones can do crazy things.

I've done it with 2 people. Maybe it was hormonal (damn pill) or for what ever reason. I have been known to burst out when I feel really comfortable with a person

in middle school I asked my sex ed teacher why guys can't have babies

I knew physically why, but not the details about us not being able to carry. Like basically I asked why the sperm and egg can't just meet up in the man.

Instead of explaining he called me an idiot and I cried.

    male pride > female hormones

edit: this was probably more in elementary school
