I am planning to make some protein bars and am wondering:

Will regular vitamin pills lose their effectiveness if I crush them into powder and add it into the pb/whey/oat/milk/nut mix. Considering that the mix is somewhat moist and will spend about a week in the fridge before the last one is consumed, will the vit. supplements break down any, or will the nutritional value remain the same?

no baking, and don't know about the acidity. How acidic is pb, choc. whey, plain whole oats, crushed mixed nuts (no salt or flavoring on these)?

I don't think it will kill the taste, pb, whey, and nuts are all pretty heavily flavored on there own, it should hide any taste of a vitamin just fine.

Yeah I don't see why you'd want to grind them up and actually put them in the bars. Taking a multivitamin or two every morning is fine for most people.

the bars will be used for backpacking - dont want to worry about pills- and I think vitamins will boost the nutritional value of the bars nicely

I think the crushed vitamins will be fine and the only thing you might have to worry about is the taste

why wouldn't you just use powdered vitamins?

well it depends, if he crushes one pill per bar it might taste like shit, but if he spreads it out over like 3 bars, then you probably wont taste much
