This is just a question I dont know if its a fact or not. I was at a Poolee function and a Marine who had just completed Boot Camp told myself and a few other Poolees that the Crucible had been changed to 72 hours instead of 54 hours. Is this true?

The crucible was stupid. Everyone makes it out to be some big deal but all it basically is, is a chance for the DI's to fuck with you non-stop because you're out in the middle of no where with no officers/series guns/etc. around.

Yes the rumor you heard is true about it now being 72 hours, and not only that but if you fail to complete the crucible instead of being dropped back in training to MRP or the following company, you're simply sent home now. Sucks for the recruit, but that's the way it should be.

Yeah the crucible is going to suck, but as long as you don't get hurt you'll be fine. Don't worry about it.

The commandant wants to trying to increase the size of the Corps by something like 22,000 new Marines by 2010, but that's never going to happen because they're not going to sacrifice quality or ease up on requirements and instead did the opposite and made it tougher to join, which is a good thing.

I also forgot to mention above, they added a 5 mile night hump to the crucible as well that you do the first night at like 2300. So many recruits got hurt during it, it was so dark you literally couldn't even see the recruit who was 2 feet in front of you.

Boot camp isn't hard as long as you're in above average shape going into it, the main thing while you're there is just don't get hurt. Everything you do at boot camp no matter what it is, the #1 thing on your mind should be don't get hurt.

0351, if you want pics of me go look at the ones taken on my 10 days of boot leave in the F&N training logs forum.

I agree...when I was in boot camp one recruit could never answer the USMC history or chain of command questions correctly before rack time. The DI got pissed and told him to pack his shit and leave.....the kid packed up his shit crying and got to the hatch with all his shit before the DI told him to get the hell back here. Mind games galore.

i am having a seriously hard time believing that accord fell for that shit.

we were told we'd get sent home for accidental discharges of blank ammunition during MILES training. happened to everyone, including me. No one got sent home.

It wasn't when I was there, this is a recent change just in the past month or so, it was front page news on the Marine Corps Times a couple weeks ago.
