Hola. I'm looking to buying a Mini from the Apple site when i get paid (Friday). Every review ever seems to be saying the 256 is NOT enough, and that I'd want 512.

Question is: Can i take one of the 512mb sticks of Crucial pc3200 from my PC, and put it in the Mac? It seems that it's possible, but is it advisable? I'd LOVE to cut the extra £50 from the memory upgrade and do it myself, as it means i can afford the blue-tooth.

If i can't, i can't. But would it work? It works fine in the PC, so i don't see a reason why it would suddenly go 'omgDETH' in the Mac.. but, wanted to be sure. *never ever ever used a Mac in his life, so is clueless*

if you're taking it from a laptop PC to your mac, then yes

if you're taking it from a desktop PC to your mac, then no

For definite? That seems to go again this and other answers i've gotten (in fact, it seems to be pretty split between the Yes/No answer on Ars and other Mac forums). And this article from Anand

Everyone seems to contradict the person i read before.. and it's confusing!

    Pineapple:
Buying a Mini (with 256mb RAM)
    Get Mini
Open Mini - put in a 512mb stick from my PC - Close Mini
    Celebrate? :big grin:

Turbo: Does that mean it cannot use the DDR400? Surely it would just run at a lower clock speed, rather than not at all?

I thought the mini takes full sized RAM so it would be the complete opposite.

    As in the Mac Mini.

I'm glad we got those issues sorted out. :p

Hard: Thanks. Is there any test i can do in advance to check the memory is okay? I mean, it runs fine in the PC (I think, i've got issues, but not RAM afaik). Would sure suck to cut the £50 ($95) upgrade, only to then be smacked with having to buy it from somewhere else.
