I just picked up a 2GB kit of their Ballistix RAM for $260 shipped with FREE next day delivery.

Tho I'm doubtful I'll get it by tomorow afternoon it was free. Saved $30 on the memory too.

Maybe I'll use this as an excuse to take my PB up to 2GB. :wackit:

People, tell me why the fuck you guys want 2 gigs to stick in your laptops. Seriously, I have 768MB and its working fine. I promise you that there is nothing that you do that I can't do, just maybe a little slower, but for me it doesn't matter because everything I do that rapes CPU and RAM useage is done overnight.

    kthxbye

For the same reasons people like excessively fast cars, loud stereo systems, big fancy houses and big screen TV's....not necessary for life, but they make things more enjoyable.

that sounds like an answer you heard somebody else say, and now you're repeating it. Okay, no. I feel the same way about buying a $2000 desktop, but not wasting $280 on 2 gigs of ram that you don't need.

Why do you always have to rain on everyone's parade? So what if they want to put in 2gig of ram, why do you care so much?

I just want somebody to justify buying 2 gigs of ram for a laptop, then if its a good enough justification, I *might* consider buying it.

Not that I think most people need a full 2GB in their laptops, but do you even own Tiger? I ask, because if you did, you would realize just how much of an absolute memory hog it is, especially with Dashboard running. If you want to run more than a couple apps at once in addition to dashboard without slowdowns you'll need easily 1GB. OSX just eats memory and you can never give it enough.

Oh, and the guy above me makes an excellent point.

coming from the guy with no "logo"....

yeah, i do run tiger. At all times I have over 150mb free of memory, and I usually have firefox, msn, itunes and some other misc stuff open. When I let my computer run overnight while encoding a movie and downloading a few torrents in azureus in the bg, I usually still have like 5mb of ram left... so yeah, i can potentially see the need for a gig, but 2 gigs, thats going overboard IMO.

In your opinion, and for your needs, which are not the same as everyone elses.
