after being on the computer for a while, my eyes kinda become sore
I have a 21 inch CRT monitor (the TV-style monitor)

Ive been looking into LCD lately. radiation wise, is LCD a lot better on the eyes?

LCDs are much easier on the eyes. It's reccommended by some sort of professional (I'm sure) that you have one if you spend massive amounts of time in front of the puter.

Sitting further away from the computer helps too. I have weeks where I'll spend 20 hours a day in front of a CRT screen and be fine :dunno:

LCD is still better. No radiation like on CRTs, no refresh rate issues (60Mhz is just fine).

SGI 1600SW. Awsome LCD. It's made for high end graphics work stations.
17" widescreen. Pretty cheap on ebay.

Apparently you don't know the difference between LCD and CRT.

    Let me school you:

Refresh Rates: Expressed in Hertz (Hz), in interlaced mode this is the number of fields written to the screen every second. In non-interlaced mode it is the number of frames (complete pictures) written to the screen every second. Higher frequencies reduce flicker, because they light the pixels more frequently, reducing the dimming that causes flicker. Also called vertical frequency.

A CRT has three electron guns whose streams must converge faultlessly in order to create a sharp image. There are no convergence problems with an LCD panel, because each cell is switched on and off individually. This is one reason why text looks so crisp on an LCD monitor. There's no need to worry about refresh rates and flicker with an LCD panel - the LCD cells are either on or off, so an image displayed at a refresh rate as low as between 40-60Hz should not produce any more flicker than one at a 75Hz refresh rate.

    Which model is that? 1760V?
If so, that is what I will be buying soon. Price right now is $389 w/ free shipping.

was that the 171B? I heard that was a awesome monitor but I just can't see myself paying 500. Its a little out of my range.

wow, i cant believe you guys are reccomending a lcd over a crt, the clarity of a crt is unmatched...sounds to me like you have a junk crt

lcd's are crap if you play games or watch movies, they just simply canNOT touch a crt

sorry to break it to you

i'm using a sony trinitron 17 inch...never have any problems with my eyes..and i'm in front of this all the time..programming, homework, surfing the web..etc
