Motherboard, first. Get something that supports dual-channel. Say an Intel D865PERLL would be cheap. Or an Asus based on the 865/875 chipset.

yeah a nice 865 or better board and dual channel memory would be a nice upgrade for really cheap..

Did you even read his thread? The chip is fine. Nothing special, but not horrible. Would do fine on an OC with a decent HS.

HOWEVER, the 845GEBV2 is a shitty mobo. I don't even think it will allow an OC.

your video card, processor, and memory will NOT work on that board.

I assume you have DDR memory and a s478 processor.

I was going to upgrade memory and the video card anyway. What would be a good processor? preferably a dual core over 3.0GHz

    .
    basically:

    $209 : 1.86GHz Dual Core w/4MB L2 Cache
    $244 : 2.13GHz Dual Core w/4MB L2 Cache
    $316 : 2.40GHz DualCore w/4MB L2 Cache
    $530 : 2.67GHz Dual Core w/4MB L2 Cache

Personally, I think the 2.13-2.40GHz will be the sweet-spot.

But even if you pass on conroe, that would be a good time to get a Pentium D for cheap, too.

will they be any good for gaming? 2.4 doesnt sound that good because you can get a 3.4 dual core for the same price now.

they've released some chips to various sites who have done 3rd-party benchmarks... the 2.4GHz Conroe *KILLED* an overclocked Athlon FX. They're also kicking the shit out of all the Pentium D's. They are SWEET chips.

would you suggest spending the extra $50 bucks and upgrading to the 955 series mobo?

depends on what you're gonna do. If you want something now, then I'd probably recommend the D945.

But I seriously recommend waiting on the Conroe and new chipsets.

I guess I can pickup 7900gt, 76GB Raptor drive and a new case with power supply and wait for the Conroe to come out and pick up a new motherboard and memory that will work with it. Any time frame?/
