So I'm still a noob when it comes to the night shots. What am I doing wrong? Any pointers?

im not a pro at all either, but the last shot the horizon should be straighter and the concrete in the bottom left should be cropped.

I'd have like to have seen the concrete path centred in the first 2.

and maybe a HDR of those two to give the buildings slightly better exposure yet not blowing out the highlights.

I like the first one, the color of that whatever in the middle really comes out, just center the sidewalk

For this ^ one I would have used a high Fstop

Little photochop for the one below and its looks nicer.
Again I would have used a slightly higher Fstop.

ahhh its those crazy towers that show the faces!! I dont understand all that weird shit in millenium park, but whatever... the bean? yeah, who thought that putting a giant metal bean in the middle of the park would be a good idea... who knows.

on a side note, I could have had my face on that wall in the 1st pic. I was in school at the time across the street (Columbia College) and one of my teachers knew the photographer doing all the pictures. I chose not to have my face 60 feet tall in the middle of chicago.

    Millenium Park...:eek3d:

and your lighting isn't all that great and really red. thats the main problem. other than that, find some kind of symetry with your photos and use your horizon, vertical lines to assist you.

pelf has a habit of not having flat/straight horizons when he takes landscape shots. They tend to lean downward (clockwise) by ~ 1 degree, so when I see shots with horizons off, I call it the pelf horizon

I'd say definalty change that fstop, also just a hint I usually use around a 3-5 second exposure when I shoot from Northerly Island also try to shoot right at twilight you will get some amazing shots in the summer time there. Here is one I am still working on that I took last week http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~jtdubach/Gallery/chicagoworking

Finally shoot it in small sections and try to paste them together in PS its a pain but worth it in the end.

This gallery has 2 other shots I got from the city that show the sky during the summer time really amazing what polution does  . http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~jtdubach/Gallery/index
