Have any of you setup e-commerce sites that accept credit cards as payment? I'm looking at Paypal - and for small transactions it is extremely expensive - 12-13% ($0.30 + 2-3%) of a $3 transaction goes to paypal. Amazon web payments is cheaper, at $0.05 + 5%, but it pulls you to Amazon's site, which we do not want.

It looks like the other providers are sort of a PITA. Anyone got suggestions?

Check with your bank, some of them offer e-commerce type solutions for small business.

Not much wrong with paypal... I have had both and paypal is hard to beat. To have one on your own through your bank first you have to set up a business, then get a merchant account with the bank which has a monthly charge and they take fees just about as much as paypal, plus you have o go through a credit screening to get the merchant account too.

Unless you are doing over 10K a month it probably won't pay off to use anything else.

Paypal charges us 13% of our gross, with our pricing model.

paypal fees are FAR more than bank merchant accounts. and on top of that, you force your customers to setup paypal accounts.

No you don't. Paypal website payments pro takes credit cards direct through your form.
