I moved into a new neighborhood and they have a community center that has a gym and i was looking at the bench today. It has a normal bench but the bar is suspended by wired on each side. When you hold the bar it senses your hands and when you lift it 1 inch it releases the locking system and you can bench and when you are done you simply open your hands and it locks into place. So you basically dont need a spot. And you can use it for squats, deadlifts, etc. I've never seen a machine like this so i was pretty impressed

I think it's smart, too smart. be wary of it, it's going to get struck by lightning and start 'thinking' for itself :eek3: Then one day it's not going to spot you and let the 500 lbs you're benching land on your throat. Then it will take your girlfriend.

Speaking of new machines...i heard Bowflex is coming out with a completely redesigned home gym unit. Apparently it doesn't look anything like its predecesors...anyone heard anything about this??

I think you're talking about a Smith machine. Its hated on a lot here b/c it limits your range of motion. However, better that than nothing!

I got a little more information on the new Bowflex. It looks like its going to be 8' long x 3' wide and apparently only be 4'6" long when folded up. The new technology is called "Spiraflex" and from what I read, looks like it was firts designed for outer space!

  13. anyone know if you can work your legs on the new bowflex....if so, that would be great. I'm stratign to wonder what it's going to look like, hopefully nothing like the Total Gym. That thing sucks.

A smith doesn't recognize when you open/close your hands on the bar though. You have to hook it on to get it stay put.
