We wanted to blow an old 15" MTX hooked it up to our 800 watt bridged QSC setup and hit it with some 50 cent. Went through its full range but would not blow. What do you guys think? Power was clean enough that it wouldnt blow or is MTX actually that good?

i've always believed mtx makes solid quality subs, we rarely see any come back at the shop.

Were the clip lights lighting up?

Which QSC amplifier do you have?

Also, distorted power can have up to 3dB more power than a sine wave of an equivilant peak voltage. It isnt the distortion that distroys the speaker, its the added power that comes along with it.

we bridged our RMX 850 to mono. the clip limiters were on, and the sound was so clean.. it didn't distort at all. It was also in an open air enclosure. we are gonna try to give it some distorted signal to see if that can phase it, but yesterday it just wouldn't budge. We may try a seal box too.. hopefully the cone will tear.

If you want to destroy it quickly, do not put it in a box at all. Run it free air, and play a tone at full output below the speakers resonance frequency.
