Ok so I was trying to resize the partitions on my hard drive. I've got 2 physical drives. I've done this many times before using Partition Magic and it just didn't take that long. Today when I was tryin to merge two 30 gig partitions together it took like 1 hour just to get to 20% completion. I figured ok screw it I'm just going to reboot and do it later. The data will probably just be partially moved over or whatever. Apparently not! I booted into windows and the drive i was trying to merge into the other is now GONE! C: D: F:, my E: is no missing. I ran partition magic again and it detected that there was a problem the last time it tried to apply changes. It asks me if I would like to recover the parition and data. I chose yes. This time I let the entire process complete, took like 3 hours. Guess what? Nothing has changed!! I still see no e: drive and now when I go into parition magic it says the drive is 100% used and everything. Gosh darn it is there anything I can do to retreive my data??? Anything at all???

    True story there.

Whenever formatting, defragging, partitioning you shouldn't turn the computer off - you get uber screwed.

:werd: And I'm very much against resizing partitions. Backup your important stuff, repartition and reformat. Much safer and cleaner.

:werd: I've only done this once but as soon as I started it I got really scared - thank God it worked but I'm not going to try it again.

install windows on another hard drive, then run the fucked up drive as your secondary. windows will be able to retrieve a lot of the information off the drive
