Just built up a new computer the other night and am running an Intel Core2Duo E6420 2.13GHz w/ 4MB Cache. Yesterday the CPU was up at around 81 degrees (celcius), so I checked to make sure the heatsink was mounted properly and it was a little loose so I snugged it down. Now I figured this was my problem but apparently it wasnt.

Right now on startup and idle the temp is sitting at like 65 degrees which is way to fucking hot :ugh:

Anyone have any ideas? Is it just a shitty heatsink, maybe not enough thermal paste :dunno:

what are you measuring the temp with?

Try Core Temp. It takes the temperature right from a diode on the cpu. I've had vastly different temps with different programs, Asus probe was reporting high 50's and core temp was low 40's.

    Nope.

I just checked it and its still in tact. I think its the heatsink not sitting properly I'm gonna bring it to the shop I bought all the parts from and ask
them to resit the heatsink :o
