I accidentally got some thermal paste on the bottom of the cpu in the little pins (amd 64)
is it safe to use rubbing alcohol to remove it from these pins or not?

get some isopropyl rubbing alcohol. Non-sented is a MUST. and the higher the % the better. Target carries 99% by me.

Make sure it's completely removed and the chip is completely dry before re-inserting. But pure alcohol disipates clean, so you should be good.

i disagree with their instructions. They say not to spread it out, but I find it to be much more effective when doing so. I also find AS5 to be a rip-off.

what you feel $8 for like a 2.5gram tube to much? the price doesn't worry me too much.
Why what do you prefer instead of AS5?

I have a jar of industrial compound that was under $4. Temps match AS5, and this stuff is non-conductive and has a much better consistancy.

and yes, $8 for a small tube is too much.

got it all sorted out. not my first time just wasn't sure about alcohol on the pins.

i like spreading as5 more than any other thermal pastes i've tried.. i hate ceramique because it gets stuck together SUPER hard and it like disappears or something over time

AS5 has to be used for a few days before it will settle right? or is that only for vid cards?

I buy AS5, but when i run out i just use generic goop. It does just as good for me, 28C-40C, i've never had AS5 drop my temps significantly. I need some ceramique though, cuz i can't mount this Southbridge cooler, and thermal tape is a joke for cooling. It's freaking burning up with NB over 2.0v.
