I have a D100 on order and I cannot wait! Here are some rather crappy pictures we took with a F707. Excuse the weirdness, it was actually raining.
The lens flare is awful, my filter was so wet.

I know the foreground is dark in some pics, we had only 1 car.

nice pics. question: say in the third pic, what would happen if the flash was used? is there anyway to get rid of the silhouette when all the light is behind the subject?

Yeah I used the flash a couple times, what happens is the white balance gets messed up and instead of the lights and greens being so dramatic, everything is more amber hued and it looked crappy. And the flash wasn't enough to compensate for 0 foreground light anyway.

I'll try to answer your question (still learning my self).

Metering is how the camera decides the appeature/shutter speed is best for the scene, if you get close to the car and push the mettering lock or the shutter halfway (not sure how it is on your camera) it will decide how fast and how wide the appeature should be to properly expose the car.

Least i think thats what he meant :)
