Let's say I'm bulking, and I want to get ~4000 calories per day. If I drink some protein shake, and get anywhere from 800-1600 calories from shakes that day, should I count them when I'm counting calories, or am I suppose to be getting ~4000 calories without counting the shakes?

I figure it makes sense to count that because they're actual calories you're intaking, but my friend said you're not supposed to.
