Hello, I have never been tested before and feel the need to get a full test. I called planned parenthood and was quoted $290 or $299 I forget. I called one other place and they quoted me $379. At the moment I am really short on cash, is this the going rate for STD testing or are there cheaper alternatives?

Thanks for the quick reply, Yes they either quoted $290 or $299 for a full test. At the moment I do not have an income so I am looking for the best price without sacrificing quality of the exam.

Also do you know if I can get tested for everything at plannedparenthood from a blood/urine test. I really do not want to do the swab

    Another brief question.

To the point, I had unprotected oral sex (recieved) from what I believe to be a high risk partner (I was drunk and regret what I did). My last sexual act prior to this was 6 months ago. The sexual contact occured this past sat (nov 1st) at 5am. Would it be a waste of $300 to get tested this friday (nov 7th) since most stds require a window period to show up?

which is also why I'd wait ~6 weeks, IIRC, that's how long it takes to show up definitively on testing, even if you don't have visible symptoms yet

A couple years ago, when I had no income, my local health clinic did it for free. I think you should call your health clinic or planned parenthood and tell them about your financial status. Maybe they will lower the price or not charge anything at all.

If you have no income then you probably won't even have to pay for it. Try your local county health clinic if the PP thing doesn't work out.

Thanks for the link. Looks to be a place about 45 minutes away. Those are just as good as going to planned parenthood right?

Depends on the test used if you're worried about HIV. The DNA/PCR test is more accurate than the Elisa test. The first one you should wait 2 weeks to test and the latter at least a month

Check your local health dept. I know they give super cheap vaccinations, maybe they do the same for tests :dunno:

Ive never once paid for an STD test, except for a donation to the clinic.

Wait, I may have paid for the mandatory one when I was pregnant, I dunno.

Anyways, point is, that amount is crazy, you can get it for cheaper. As said, sliding scales are the norm at clinics like these.

Also, agreed that you should wait a bit, as you would not want to get a false positive because you test before something had time to brew.

Risk of HIV and STDs from Oral Sex[IMG]Answered by Mark Vogel, MA, HIV InSite Associate Editor for Prevention and Policy
[IMG] Question[IMG]Can you get HIV or any other disease by receiving oral sex from a girl, and, if so, could you name the diseases please?
[IMG] Answer[IMG]You cannot get HIV from contact with saliva alone, so insertive oral sex (that is a man receiving oral sex) is safe. The only way insertive oral sex could present some risk is if your sex partner had sufficient amounts of blood in her mouth (from recent dental work or other dental problems for example) and your penis came into direct contact with blood. But you’d hopefully notice if your partner had blood in her mouth.
You can get other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) from insertive oral sex. The more common ones include gonorrhea, chlamydia, and non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU). These usually can be treated easily with antibiotics. You may also get syphilis (which usually can be treated easily with antibiotics (if identified early enough) and herpes (which can’t be cured but can be treated). A useful table of STDs and associated risks can be found online. It also contains detailed information about each STD.
If you’re a sexually active young man, you should probably get screened at least once a year for STDs. Many STDs do not have symptoms and can go unnoticed. Talk to your doctor about screening for STDs, or, if you are uncomfortable talking with him or her, you can go to a city or county STD clinic.

Donate blood. They'll let you know in a hurry if there is anything wrong with you. :)

I called back my planned parenthood, at their location they only offer a flat rate of $302 for all the tests. My local public health clinic does some standard tests for $40 so I will go there next month. They don't do herpes though so I will have to get that done at planned parenthood perhaps.

The planned parenthood closest to me, Costa Mesa, will screen you for free if you claim zero income or financial hardship.

They'll only ask for a donation on the way out
