well... I know that a lot of people dress up as trekkies and storm troopers, so I figured this would be the most appropriate forum.

I've decided to go to my halloween parties as gordan freeman in the hazard suit this year, and need help with the hazard suit. pretty much I'm clueless as to how I'd go about making it. I've got excellent fiberglassing skills so all the odd shapes and panels are no problem. my issue is what articles of clothing do I put the 'glass on? I was thinking of buying some cheap dirt bike riding gear as a base, but that can get really damned expensive really fast.

    My question is:

are there any people in here who have stormtrooper armor, and if so, how'd you make it? my total budget for this venture is $500, and that had to include funds to build a gauss cannon.

    What're your measurements?

Have you done cosplay before (are you familiar with www.cosplay.com )?

I started to try to fiberglass the main chest part of the suit, but am having some major issues with sharp edges amongst sther things, I haven't invested a lot of materials into it so far, and am thinking of abandoning the project :( I found out that most storm trooper armor is make from vacuum modled plastic in home-made rigs (no nasty razor sharp fiber glass edges, no explosive fumes, much faster process). I dont' have the funds to invest in the intital setupcosts unfortunately, so I'm probably going to shelve this idea for a gaming convention.

fibre glass hurts like poo. to put it nicely. i was looking at pics of Gordon(because i don't play HL) and it looks like quite an undertaking you could probably find the base parts online and then alter them to suit your needs. that would save you time. truthfully, most people spend close to a year or so working on a costume like that...unless they alrady have the parts around their house.

IMO, if i was going to the massive amount of trouble to glass up something of that magnitude, i'd be going for something a little more eye-popping... like Samus from Metroid for example. :dunno:

but thats just me. :hs: (im not trying to shit on your idea, by any means...)

Agreed. I've YET to see a quality looking Samus Aran outfit.
