I was in the middle of playing TF2 and the comp shut off and wouldn't restart. Pulled the PSU and jumped it, still nothing. Sent in an RMA request already. It was only a little over 4 months old. :crying:

Doesnt that usually just happen with overvolting, not just when the PSU dies? Hopefully a new, good PSU like that has some sort of protection.....hopefully.

a dead/dying psu can also mean that all of its circuitry fail,... including any protection it has

i've seen PSUs died 'quietly', taking out other components with it
i've also seen ones that diaf, smoke and all, taking out nothing

either way, its a scary thing

Seriously. I just repaired a PC that was a few years old. It ran fine one day, the next it wouldnt turn on. Took out the mobo and CPU with it.

There wasn't any visible smoke, but definitely the smell of something burning. I've got a spare NIB OCZ PSU here at work that I'm going to use to see if the PSU took out anything else with it.

I brought the OCZ home and luckily everything else seems to be fine.

:wtc: I had an old system with a dying power supply and figured i would just let it limp along for a little more. Ruined USB and audio on the mobo, couldn't do soft reboots.

    Fuckin electronics.

that stuff shit scares me too

I just picked up a 750w corsair as well and I've read in a few places that the corsair powersupplies have not been all that great

all this after I bought and installed it :o
