I can't boot Windows because I receive the following error:

Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

I've tried the steps to recover it here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;307545

However, I'm still having problems. The repair command prompt copies everything except....

    copy c:\windows\repair\system c:\windows\system32\config\system

It cannot find c:\windows\repair\system to copy over to the system32 dir.

How can I get back into Windows? I need to restore this file, but cannot find it on the HD to copy it over using the DOS command prompt wizard found on the XP installation CD's repair feature.

    Please help!

    Thanks

If I get the system file off of another computer and put it on a floppy, could I run the following prompt the restore the file to start Windows?

    copy a:\system c:\windows\system32\config\system

At this point, I don't think there is much to lose by trying that.

Whoa whoa whoooooaaa... before you do anything, get into a repair console and run chkdsk. This fixes the issue 75% of the time from what I've seen.
