Shot the owner of a local modeling agency today, the one who wants the 'vanity fair' photoshoot done...

Today we just did a new headshot for her website.

    something seems off about it.

I dunno if its your masking job and you painted in the background (the upper right hand corner is playing tricks on me, looks darker with brush strokes)

or if you had the subject too far away from the blue background and the DOF is too thin.

But im assuming the first one.

    weird.

I'm actually seeing rings or strokes around the whole thing now.

I didn't do much editing on this. It was shot on the hasselblad though and brought over in flexcolor, which I'm not too familiar with. Banding maybe?

    what the fuck.

Her face is a little saturated. Other than that it looks fine to me

Was the background originally blue? She looks like a cut out. Perhaps you needed a rim light. :dunno:

portrait was a precursor to the vanity fair shot. Thats coming after christmas sometime.

Really starting to think I goofed the colors somehow in flexcolor. She is pretty tan naturally, but if it looks oversaturated...

yeah, bg was blue. Seriously, minimal editing here. exported to dng from flexcolor, set black and white points, slight sharpen and saved as jpg.

I thought it was good... :hsd:

The only thing that I thought was "woah - facial highlights", like, it's hard to look at, highlights.

its good. lighting is a smidge too hot but nothing to worry about, and pose is good for a corporate photo. I would crop a little tighter, get rid of teh negative spce on teh right, maybe crop a little under her elbows.

But its a technically sound corporate photo. All thing mentioned can be corrected in post.

chick has some serious chompers, they are white as shit and really straight. I dunno i have a thing about grills

    thanks guys.

    I'm gonna re-edit.

Nothing was close to clipping when I shot it, but it looks like the reds in her face are actually clipped.

I fucked this up somewhere along the line.

I'll post the re-edit prolly tomorrow.

Perhaps it's time to re-calibrate my work machine too.

Needs some hair light. Otherwise the lighting is good. Not crazy about the bland background but I know it's for a website so that's ok.

Oh...and I'd hit it. Hard. :naughty:

Yeah light is a little harder than I like. Since its going on the web make sure the facial highlights aren't gonna get blown out by web browsers crappy ability to display color and average LCD monitors tendencies to be uber bright.

Other then that looks like a good job to me.

Nice clarity, but the background is pretty shitty IMO.

yeah, I know... I chose the evenly lit blue for 2 reasons - it's easy to cut out like a green screen, and it's simple and generic enough that she can use it for any purpose.

So, little help OT - school me on the correct way to do backgrounds for these shots - gradients? textures? I'm new to this stuff...

    Examples?

    2nd attempt:

new background, edited on newly calibrated monitor.

I think I fixed a lot of the shit.

    thoughts on this one?
