I've never copied DVDs before. I have some Macs and some DVDs I want to backup and some DVD-Rs. How should I do this?

MacTheRipper is a good place to start. That can remove any "protections" it might have. Then you can use Toast to burn a new copy (being a legit program it won't copy "protected" media. But MTR can fix that). Alternatively, you can use Handbrake to compress the movie into a mp4 or avi file if you like.
