Cops pay 3 a.m. visit to tell man his door is unlocked

LAKEVILLE, Minnesota (AP) -- A Lakeville man says he feels violated after two police officers woke him up at 3 a.m. to tell him his door was unlocked.
Their surprise visit was part of a public service campaign to remind residents to secure their homes to prevent thefts. Usually, officers just leave notices on doors.
But they went further in Troy Molde's case on Thursday. Police entered the house where four children under 7 were having a sleepover, and then went upstairs to Molde's bedroom.
The officers told Molde his garage door was open, the TV was on, the keys to his truck were left in the ignition and the door to his house was ajar.
A police spokesman says the intrusion was justified because the officers' initial door knocks went unanswered, and they wanted to make sure nothing was wrong.
He says the kids inside -- Molde's two sons and two nephews -- were afraid to wake their dad, so the officers went upstairs.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

I grew up in Lakeville, and live just next door in Burnsville now.
These people live just a few blocks away from my parents. I grew up with his brother Dave.
I guess now we have absolutely NOTHING to worry about anymore guys. The cops will just enter your house and wake you up to let you know what's going on. No big deal. Now we don't have to do ANYTHING. Maybe, if you're nice to them, they'll start the coffee a little early, walk the dog, and maybe even water your garden.

WTF police, get out of our lives. :ugh2:

They call it a "public service campaign" but we all know they're just getting us ready for no-knock gun raids in the near future.

They call it a public service campaign, but what it really is, is a check to make sure that people aren't smoking weed, etc. It's basically a way in. This is the same thing as allowing a cop to pull you over for having a tassle hanging from your rear view mirror or having a sticker on the back window.

What if the guy was leaving the garage door open for his wife? What if the kids accidentally left the front door unlocked because they were going in and out? What if the guy leaves his key in the ignition because the ignition switch is broke?

Honestly, if this would have happened in my house they would have been shot. There have been a lot of crimes committed lately where the criminal was dressed as a uniformed officer. If I didn't call the cops, my wife didn't call the cops, and one is in my house without announcing their presence? Fuck, they are lucky the cops didn't get in a shootout!

No kidding. I live in Cottage Grove/Woodbury. About the safest cities in the United States and I leave my shit unlocked all the time (on accident). I've left my garage door open (my inside garage door is never locked) for an entire weekend before when I forgot to close it!

Eric (TS) grew up right in that area. Honestly, if that place isn't considered safe, then I don't know what safe really is.

It doesn't matter anymore. You're not safe from the criminals, and you're not safe from the police.
Law abiding citizens are caught in the middle and get royally FUCKED on a daily basis.
