I'm thinking about trading in my 2003 MINI Cooper S in for a 2005 Lotus Elise.. Do any of you have experiences with the new Elise? I think it's sex on wheels!

Do you even need to ask; this one is a no-brainer.

id have to agree with derrict.....do it now. you know you will always regret it if you dont. peer pressure, peer pressure, peer pressure. jk man. if i had the choice between the two, id go with the elise.

I'd never thought I'd say this, but the Mini might be the better choice, as it is more practical

when you are talking about cars that small, neither of them is practical. i agree that the mini might be more practical than the elise. i hope practicality isnt a factor in this decision though.

Agreed. This is a no brainer.

Although, I would rather castrate my left nut than drive an Elise as a daily driver. I haven't driven the new one, but I have the old one, and the lack of sound deadening, the close proximity to the engine, the bare (and I mean BARE) interior, etc would drive me insane.

I would *LOOOOOOOOVE* one as a dedicated track car though.

Elise as a daily? If that's your plan, then I might suggest sticking with the Cooper.

If you're looking for the Elise to be a daily drive, I think Lotus offers a touring package which includes A/C, full carpeting and more sound deadening. You loose a bit of performance on track day, but it would make the car much more comfortable and practical while you're bangin' through the canyons and commuting. I love our Mini, but as you've heard already, it's a no brainer for an enthusiast.

It's good to hear some opinions! I really like the look of the Elise.. it's definitely growing on me, and damn affordable for a mid engine, rwd sports car (45g, sweet). Yes, it would be a daily driver, which is one of the reasons I'm so hesitant. If I were to trade in my Cooper S, I'd have to get another vehicle (thinking a used small pickup) so I at least would be able to go shopping or something and have some room for errands. I would definitely get the touring package, with a metallic paint job, but that's probably the extent of the modifications.. My MCS is upgraded a lot more, with around 180-190 hp (at the wheels). Argh!! Too tough a decision...

Don't forget that in the Bay Area there is currently a 12-14 month waiting list for the Elise unless you know someone. :)
