I just got a new Asus A8V motherboard and an Athlon 64 3000+ and i'm using the stock athlon heatsink till my Zalman gets here, and i can't get the cool n quiet feature to work. Does anyone else have this motherboard or this problem and know whats wrong?

i turned it on in the bios, turned on Q-fan, set the power scheme to minimum and installed the program that asus includes to moniter the feature at work but it just sits at 1800mhz all the time. The clock speed never changes, nor does the cpu fan speed, even when the computer is in standby mode or just sitting idle. I'd really like to get this feature working if anyone could help.

you've set the minimum fan speed to "off" in bios?

you've manually installed the athlon 64 driver in device manager?

could be. Usually the issue has been the driver... so double check that. But go into bios and see what you have set there, too.

while booting i can hear the fan speed changing, but as soon as i get into windows it remains constant.
