    2950 shipped - 300 rebate

    i have a tamron 17-35, 50mm f/1.4, and 70-200 f/4

might add a midrange zoom or 85mm f/1.8 depending on what i feel i need this summer, but for now that glass is enough

On the FF 5D, the 85 f/1.8 is a good compliment. On the 1.6x, most go with the 135 f/2.0 to compliment then 70-200 f/4.0.

    Any reason for the 5D over a 1dk m2?

1Ds MK3 is probably coming out this summer.

    5D makes a perfect portrait/studio camera.

don't go with the 5d, your lenses will eat it alive. You need really top quality glass to get the most out of the 5d. And i'd second hashy's idea. A used 1ds is a better deal that a new 5d.

I think most reviews and samples shows that 5D actually has better image quality and less noise than the 1Ds. So, unless you need better AF and weather seal, I had go with the 5D.

Damn all those talk about 5D makes wanna dump Nikon... :wtc:

but a good FF wide angle will set you back half the price of the body, a a good wide is the reason to get a ff camera.

Better AF and weather sealing, plus a better layout, more customazation, butter built body, bigger brighter viewfinder, better battery system etc are pretty good reasons to get a 1ds, plus its resale won't go down much with ownership at this point.

If I just wanted wide angle, I would have bought a wide angle. I have been very pleased with my tamron 17-35 thus far and have even seen results on film that didn't show too much light fall off even wide open. I really want my lenses to be their correct length. 70-200 would be much more useful to me as 70-200 rather than 112-320. Besides that, the image quality exceeds the 30d, viewfinder is huge, and the resolution doesn't hurt. The 1ds is out of the question, the 5d was stretching the budget a little as I am thinking about the 24-70 sometime in the near future

I wouldn't use the term "corrected length", because a 200mm is a 200mm, the focal length is a physical property that does not change.

Intended FOV is probably a better term. I would use my 70-200 VR a lot more for tight indoor shots if I have a FF body. But then agian, I do get more "reach" when doing nature photography. You win some, you lose some I guess...

there are plenty of pro photographers that still believe the 1ds > 5d in image quality considering the relative lack of in-camera processing that goes on in a studio-oriented camera.

    well to each his own

my question for you is this: Why do you want a 5d over a 30d? Are you hoping to sell images? Just a over jealous hobby? Over compensating? Seems like its just a getting started hobby thus far, and bodies are a huge investment that depreciate faster than cars. Personally I'd sink the money into lenses or photo vacations.

I do sell images. I've started to get into portraits/headshots and advertising photos. I feel like the 5d will be a camera I can grow into and keep for a while before any real temptation to upgrade comes along
