I have some MP3's at high bitrates.. for storage purposes, I'd like to convert them down to maybe 128k to get more on a CDR... what freeware and/or shareware tools will let me batch convert them?

    Thanks.

You can use CDex to first convert them to waves (which doesn't take much time at all). Then reencode them witht the builtin LAME encoder (which most argue to be the best)

I have yet to hear of a program that will do that in one step.

That sounds like a plan. I'll try that. Thanks.

Cool Edit Pro will do it, of course it is now called Adobe Audition and will cost more...

I made one of the original webpages for the guy that created CDex. He has since upgraded. :hs:

I tried the CDEX procedure, and it didn't seem to affect final file size hardly at all.. I'm going to try the Cool Edit if I can, and see how that works.

No... I've guest browsed there a time or two, but I don't think I've ever posted or even registered.

there's a free program that I found on download.com or cnet a couple years ago that i've used many, many times. It's called Shuffler Convertor so try it and see what you think.

I saw that, and tried it. Weird.. Windows Media Player identifies one of these MP3's as 360Kb, but Cool Edit, and the dbPowerAmp identifies it as 137, so when I actually do the convert, I'm not saving much space.. not really worth the effort.

Thanks for the help though guys.
