    I just formatted reinstalled XP pro. The drive was NTFS. Now everything I had saved on my backup drive is gone and the drive is showing it as FAT32, so I need to convert it to NTFS, will all my stuff show up when I convert?

    if you formatted the whole drive, then your stuff went bye bye.

    format = erase

    I formated my C drive, Not my D, so everything on my D should be there, and I have several file recovery programs as well and they are even finding all my files. I still dont understand why foramating my C made all my D disappear.

    If the partition is still there you might have to go into Disk Management under control panel and import the foreign drive (or whatever the fuck MS calls it).

    Are you sure you formatted the C drive and not the D drive? Dos (IE. Windows Setup) will sometimes name drives differently.

    my C is 40gig and D is 120gig. it said 38000k and was the only option. I tried a recovery program and it found 51gig which is about right, but when it recovers it, its in weird files. I really need a DVD burner

    Hmmm - here's the deal - you dont have to convert the drive to read it in WIndows XP, so something else is definately up. Now, what you may have a problem with right now is seeing the large drive - you may need to apply a patch for windows to recognize the drive. If you started playing aroudn with recovery tools that CHANGED anything on the drive, you may have screwed yourself.

    whats the patch name? I have formatted in the past and never had a problem with this, its got me boggled. Do you think if I reformat my C and reinstall windows it may work? I'll try anything, I lost soo much stuff.

    Service Pack 1 for Windows XP has support for larger drives.

    Go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download all Critical Updates.
