I am not happy with my results from this shoot. Reposting this from the main forum where i posted the day of the fire. anyways peep this.

So woke up today (10:30am PST) and saw some wildfires that were about 1 mile north. I guess they might have been sparked by a train. 4 seperate fires + tinder dry summer = not good.

Got as close as i could but there was a lot of roadblocks/firefighting going on. Anyways here are some pictures of the action.

I hope you enjoy. No word yet on how many homes will burn from this, but i know at least 2 have gone up. Its burning into a town named marshall right now, with about 30 houses (within 50 yards when i left)

I like some of the ideas but the overall quality of the pictures is terrible.

I really like this one but as with the other ones, not a fan of the colors (or lack of).

not much i could do about it, i live in a very brown place (as far as vegetation this time of year) and there was alot of smoke. this is just what it looks like when u are in the midst of a big forest fire. the light has to go threw alot of smoke. that shot is pretty much straight from the camera.

maybe u can give me some tips on improving image quality then. only thing that would have helped i think was a tripod. kinda dark in there from all the smoke, shooting handhelp witha sigma 70-200 and a 1.6x TC (not used on most of the shots). i know a couple of them are a little soft mostly because between my glasses and the smoke mask i was wearing i couldnt see into the tiny d70 viewfinder very well. i dunno its a tricky think to shoot, esp when u are very limited on the places you can shoot from.

I don't think any of it was under your control. Like you said you were using a TC so that would explain some softness, but what kills it for me is the luminance and color noise. Most of the shots I have seen from you have been technically good captures but ruined images from noise. Then again, I shot landscapes this weekend with a huge fire in the back ground and have seen just how shitty pictures look with smoke and haze.

i swear its my camera.. lol

i dunno i just seem to have all sorts of noise issues these days that i didnt have when i first got it. its gone through alot but at this time im unable to afford a new camera. you know any good tests that i could to to measurbate it?

this camera has gone through alot, snowboarding crashes, i ran over it with a subaru, high heat (120), extreme cold (-10)

    i dunno

don't worry about the colors and such in these photos. im sure they could use a little contrast/saturation but you were going for the "natural" look, or what it would have looked like if you were there, which is what most shots *should* look like so i wouldn't worry about it much.

this one was my fav out of the bunch. make the orange/red pop a little more and it should be a keeper :bigthumb:

I hope your house isn't in the path of this. Being from FL and dealing with wildfires every year I understand the frustrations

    That cobra is cool.

We have one here. They don't drop water with it though. They use the flir to look through the smoke.
