    ...and switching to nikon :noes:

i dont take that many photos any more and feel my gear is collecting dust.

    what i have:
    rebel xt
    18-55mm
    thrifty fifty (with circular polarizer)
    tamron 28-75mm
canon 10-22mm (with circular polarizer and hood)

    what i'm considering getting:
    nikon d40
    nikon 18-200mm

this would allow me to have a multipurpose lens without having to switch out, or rely on a tripod (unless at night)

    thoughts? :noes:

buying a different camera isn't going to help you take any more photos. If it's collecting dust just sell it... no need to replace it with anything.

If you're going to switch to Nikon, don't get anything less than a D70. I guess D50's are acceptable, too.

And not wanting to switch lenses at all is somewhat counter-productive to the whole SLR concept. :o

This is what we call a mistake. You will go no benefit from a D40, the 18-200 is a nifty lens, and I wish Canon made one, but it's not going to give you the quality the 28-75, thrifty fifty or 10-22mm are giving you.

I'll take the 10-22 for $80. Factoring in the dust issue.

I know it won't make me take more photos - thats not the point. i still want to be able to go out and take photographs, but with more control than a P&S and with less bulk than what i have now :dunno:
yes, but one lens would be better for carrying and travel :dunno:
    :ugh2:

If you want more control do not buy a super-zoom lens. Part of having more control is having more lenses that you can switch out when needed.

So good image quality and DoF are not all that important to you?

eh... you won't get a huge boost in the quality of your pictures, but the simplicity of the setup might allow you to take more. that's the main advantage.

i'm not here to harrass you about your decision, only wishing you were selling Nikon stuff so I could benefit from your fire sale.

Like I said in the reply AFTER that, I'd really recommend you keep what you have... I figured if you were dumping stuff maybe I could benefit from it, can't hate for trying.

 thanks for the suggestion. did you ever feel like you needed to get another lens (or two) in order to achieve something the 18-200mm didnt do?
