My life is a drag right now. I'm 21 years old, living at home, and going to a community college. I can't stay at home much longer or else i'm gonna lose my fucking sanity. I can't find a job which pays enough for me to move out. I grew up in the town I live in and there is just nothing here for me anymore. At my young age I would like to travel and experience life. So, i'm considering joining the military.

I don't know much about each branch. I'd like to be a pilot of some sort. Helicopter pilot/fighter pilot/big plane pilot. Obviously I would like to get good pay and perhaps learn a skill that I can apply in the real world. Getting the GI bill to pay for school would be a big plus as well.

Can someone educate me on the different branches? Are there any programs they have for people like me? I'll gladly answer any questions.

    Why?
I know many pilots in the same situation at that age.. He might not be flying a F-22 maybe a copter maybe a 130...

Go talk to a recruiter where do you live??

need a degree to fly in most services. army has warrant officers but their high school to flight school program is extremely political and tough to get into if i've heard correctly.

:hsugh: Has to be a four year degree.

Anyways, just do some research. The military isn't for everyone. As far as the Marines are concerned...it fucking sucks. It's great because of the pride you have, the buddies you make, and SOME of the training is cool, but for the most part your every day live FUCKING BLOWS. Now with that said, I don't regret it IN ANY FORM WHATSOEVER. You can decipher that however you want.

If you really want to fly do some research/talk to a recruiter. They have programs IIRC where they'll help pay for your schooling so you can get a degree, get a commission and eventually go to flight school. Others on here probably know alot more about it that I do though.

    So?
What about the part that says i'm tired of it all? Yeah, i've tried drugs and i'm done with them, doesn't mean you can't be a pilot.

Actually unless you want to commit a crime and lie on your security clearance then it does.

plenty of people who've experimented with drugs move on to become productive members of the military.

Doesn't have to lie to join the military, but he isn't going to get into any flight programs with a history of drug use.

I'm not flying with people who have a history of experimenting with drugs.

I've smoked pot like 50 times total. I've tried cocaine, ecstasy, lsd, and mushrooms 1-2 times each. I've drank lots of alcohol. I've ran with the different crowds as well and let me tell you that none of those drugs are as bad as alcohol. The drunk people are the ones that get in fights, drive and kill people, and do things that they regret the next day. The government legalizes alcohol and makes everything else illegal. Just because your government tells you that drugs are bad doesn't make it true.

Of coarse, all I did was try em, I was never hooked on anything. Nothin wrong with that.

What a wonderful attitude and opinion you have. Someone like you definitely would make a great officer in the military.

Please continue talking about how the government you are considering serving is bad, and people who are what you aspire to be are wrong.

:uh: Why do people think of joining the armed forces as their "last resort"?

I know we let a lot of dumbfucks in before but I guess that perception has stayed. In reality, it's a pretty competitive process especially on the OCS side. I've met some really educated people thus far in the armed services, dudes with master's and numerous lingual proficiencies. I hope this perception that "my life is shit, minus whale join the army" changes :ugh:
