What do you want do? You like boats? You like airplanes? You want to shoot people? Do you want to blow shit up and/or prevent shit from blowing up? I believe the best thing to do is find a military job that will help in the civilian word. Like a computer job or a medical job.

Figure out what you want to do. There is a pretty good website About Dot Com that has info on most jobs in the military. Once you figure out what you would like to do, figure out which branch offers the better job for you. Then, talk to several recruiters. Never ever just talk to one. Recruiters are nothing more than salesmen. I am pretty sure that there are people from every branch of the military here who will answer any and all questions you may have.

Yeah, I was looking thru that site earlier when evan2 posted the link; pretty informative site. As for what jobs I would want to do, I haven't even the slightest idea. :hs: I took an asvab test a few years ago when I was thinking about joining then; scored a 92. The recruiter told me I'd be able to do just about any job I wanted with that score, but like now, I couldn't decide. I just know I don't want to be stuck behind a desk all day doing the same repetitive thing. I had considered being an MP/Security (ibhate) since it would allow me to just about walk onto any police force once I got out, (provided I made it thru police academy) but I passed on that idea bc I've been told its an incredibly boring, repetitive job in the military and that a lot of soldiers hate MPs.

    Anima,

My buddy was an oregon cop for many years and just moved to Tucson and there is a year waiting list just to try out so I do not think being a military cop means you can just walk on.

to be honest I think you would hate the mp job though it depends what you like to do. Most young guys are stuck doing gate or plane guard. Some cops end up behind a desk. I am pretty much stuck behind a desk nowadays because I am in a supervisor/manager role. Not that my job is all outside work but I set up training in the field so we can go out and teach the new guys.

I do hate being stuck in here sometimes.

You could get any job though some require other tests.

This is basically the same thing you liked TS, the navy seabees is what the AF civil engineers are. Now that is just the squadron name, we are not all CIVIL Engineers

but our style of work is the same though the AF is the best beddown force in the service and we have the best finish work, something which the other branches cannot compete with.

Which sucks as we get stuck deploying to support all the other branches.

you will honestly get the most out of going navy
the engineers on a ship have to be self sufficient and cant just sit back and order parts so you will learn how to fabricate, etc etc

your local naval recruiter will be able to tell you more

I grew up a Navy brat and have great respect for the Navy...ended up joining the Army :o
