from a guy on ebay. He was really cool and did a bunch of test shots I requested.

    Here are some test shots:
http://www.pbase.com/wlarmon/tamvscamboattest - I think these are pretty good.

However here, http://www.pbase.com/wlarmon/tam_vs_can_box_test, not so good. For example, [email protected] is absolutely horrible, but the 17-55 didn't look all that great either.

What do you guys think? I know this lens can be a toss up in quality, so I want to know if I have a "good" copy. It looks ok to me, compared to the shots from his canon 17-55 f2.8

There's no way it can compare to the L at 1/3 the price, it can get close, from what I hear. I just don't know whether this lens is one of those good copies.

I don't think you're supposed to have noise - maybe you had a bad copy?

I sent mine off to Tamron and had it calibrated to my camera after bad results . Came back a little better . Not what I wanted still .

i have this lens on a 20D and its nice. needs to be stopped down some to be sharp. 2.8 is kinda soft. also hunts a little in low light but thats to be expected. great lens for the price

mine is sharper than most of the 24-70's I've used. obviously not the same build and focusing speed is the biggest problem for me, but optically its just about as good and certianly one of the few places you can save money and still get something decent

My friend who used it on 1.3 crop forever sold it as soon as he put it on a FF camera.

It should still be fine for 1.3 and 1.6 crop though. If you shoot Canon you should buy mine.

I'll be using it with my 1.6 30D.

The 28-75 no good for FF?

Is yours a good copy? (some test shots at 2.8 would be nice...)

My copy is good and focuses accurately on my 30D and 40D.

I think I was asking $300 for mine. I've been lazy about selling it.

i had one. sold it. and now i kinda want one again because i was planning on getting a 24-70, but money is tight these days. the only real gripe i had was the noisy AF, moving focusing ring, and the focus was not that great in low light. but its a great lens.

random samples, all UNsharpened, only 1 even left Lightroom. All at various F stops, exif is there I think. Bought it used of FM 2 years ago, been a champ other than low light focusing and 67mm filters

I've been pretty happy with mine.
a little softer @ f/2.8 than I'd like, but it's not bad enough that you notice on the prints, and that's what matters.

get the tamron 17-50 f/2.8 unless you need the longer zoom.

I liked the one I had briefly, very sharp, I find it just as good as the Canon 24-70 just slower focussing.
