Canon EF 28-105 F/3.5-4.5 II USM

    or

Tamron AF 28-75mm f2.8 XR Di Zoom

I like the zoom on the Canon, while I like the f/2.8 on the Tamron. Both recieved an 8.6 on FM.com, but more people reccomend the Canon. The Canon's almost half the price, also. I just want a good all-purpose lens with good length & quality. Sub $400 is imperative. My camera = Canon 350D. Reccomendations?

Also, a huge bicycle stage race (Tour de Georgia) is coming my way, and that's mainly why I'm buying a new lens. So, lots of panning and quick shots.
