It's often said that many people drive a BMW because of brand image. With the new 1 series even BMW themselves have said it provides a chance for buyers to own a bimmer at a lower price. With all this niche widening which are the real BMWs, the stand out models of the past and present that were, are much better than the competition and make a BMW worth owning?

Who cares if people buy them for image? People buy many different vehicles for many different reasons, that’s why it’s left for us the true enthusiasts to really embrace what we have.

It didn't have much punch, but with 50/50 weight distribution and the then new Z arm rear suspension the Z1 was really balanced. I like it's Bertone styling.
In the 02' family the 2002 turbo broke ground as the first European turbocharged car, ever. Also, the 1972 BMW 3.0 Si 0-60 in 7.4 seconds and a top speed of 140 mph.
    Great looking e39 M5 M5am.:bigthumb:

I'm torn on the angel eyes. I can get them for my car, but I don't really like how they look in the daytime. And I want to be able to turn them on or off with a switch, which is more work. :hs:

The inspiration for the 1978 M1 came from the 1972 Turbo concept car styled by Paul Bracq. Powered by an uprated version of the 2002 turbo motor (200 Vs 170 bhp), this futuristic I4 gullwing sportscar had a top speed of 155 mph, and a safety energy absorbing nose and tail with invisible bumpers.
